First Round:
Frankie Taylor (W) 4.072 at 183 mph (.090 RT)
Gene Hector (RU) 4.182 at 179 mph (.025 RT)
Gene Hector was going for the win when he chopped the tree down next to Frankie but the Taylor Boys’ horsepower kicked in and they were able to squeak by the win.
Thomas Myers (W) 4.507 at 143 mph (.149 RT)
Ricky Cates (RU) 13.702 at 65 mph (.126 RT)
Neither one of these cars looked like they were in a hurry to leave based on the reaction times and both cars got loose……so loose in fact that from where I was standing it looked like Thomas crossed the center line but I guess he didn’t cuz it was on to 2nd round for Myers.
Steve Wiley (W) 4.195 at 174 mph (.095 RT)
Heath Harvey (RU) 4.451 at 162 mph (.009 RT)
This is Heath’s first TOPMA outing and they are still trying to get things lined out with their new blown combination but Heath did his job at the starting line, he just didn’t have enough horses working to put Steve on the trailer.
Wes Johnston (W) 4.026 at 183 mph (.056 RT)
Clyde Scott (RU) 4.528 at 121 mph (.053 RT)
Isn’t this the way it always happens…..two teammates have to run each other in the first round. Clyde has a few more bugs to work out but Wes had things figured out and cruised on by for the win.
Semi finals:
Thomas Myers (W) 4.104 at 176 mph (.067 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 4.146 at 175 mph (-.116 RT)
Steve fouled the tree and gave the automatic win to Thomas. I don’t know if Thomas saw the red but he was chasing Steve down anyway.
Wes Johnston (W) 3.993 at 182 mph (.055 RT)
Frankie Taylor (RU) 4.824 at 113 mph (.059 RT)
Both cars left almost together but Wes’ horses were a little stronger and he was going to the finals. Frankie shut it down early due to tire shake.
Final Round:
Wes Johnston (W) 4.152 at 172 mph (.057 RT)
Thomas Myers (RU) 4.122 at 176 mph (.113 RT) Wake up Thomas!!
Both cars looked to be a little loose but neither was giving up. Wes scrapped the guardrail in the shut down area but kept it between the center stripes!
Congratulations to Wes and the WWW team for their first victory this year and their stellar performance all season long. Congrats to Thomas and Rebecca on their runner-up finish as well. Thanks for a great night of racing to WATCH.
